Zagreb, the Croatian Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Department (USKOK) submitted an application to extend the investigation against Đurović on suspicion that unknown suspects hired him for the murder of the co-owner of weekly Nacional, and that he then prepared the murder with the other suspects.USKOK has called for the investigation to be extended on the basis of the findings of the probe thus far, the Croatian State Prosecution has announced on its website, stating only the suspect’s initials and age. After unknown individuals hired Đurović for an unknown fee to kill Pukanić, Đurović, together with brothers Robert and Luka Matanić and Amir Mafalanije, organized accommodation, trailing of Pukanić and the purchase of the necessary equipment, the application states. Đurović decided on the murder method with Željko Milovanović and Bojan Gudurić, who are still at large, and who came to Croatia from abroad for the operation, the application adds. USKOK suspects Đurović of two murders, of Pukanić and his marketing director Niko Franjić, for crimes against general security, and criminal association. He, along with Serbian national Milenko Kuzmanović, was earlier suspected of aiding and abetting the hitmen after the murder. It is believed that they were meant to help the Matanić brothers escape to Serbia with counterfeit documents, but all four were arrested near the Serbian border. Pukanić and Franjić were murdered on October 23, 2008, in the car park of their company headquarters in Zagreb.
