Convict linked by DNA to a cold case has been convicted of raping and killing a woman in Los Angeles in 1988. A Superior Court jury deliberated for two hours Friday before convicting Timothy Pinckney Jr. of first-degree murder for the slaying of Ella Lawrence. The district attorney's office says police found Lawrence's battered body 20 years ago near a South Los Angeles high school. Police in 2004 matched DNA taken from the body to a sample taken from Pinckney while he was in prison on a parole violation for an unrelated case. He has been held without bail since then. Pinckney faces 25 years in prison without parole at his sentencing hearing on Nov. 3.
